Vi har længe brugt restprodukter fra skov- og landbrug som brændsel på mange af vores kraftværker. I dag bruger vores kraftværker primært bæredygtig biomasse i form af halm, træpiller og træflis.
VEKS
VEKS, Vestegnens Kraftvarmeselskab I/S, blev i 1984 etableret for at kunne udnytte overskudsvarme dels fra kraftvarmeværker dels fra affaldsforbrænding og større industrivirksomheder. Man bruger langt mindre brændsel, når man med VEKS’ transmissionssystem udnytter overskudsvarmen.
VEKS' forsyningsområde er koblet sammen med søsterselskabet CTR i København og med Vestforbrænding. Det samlede anlæg er et af Europas største fjernvarme-transmissionssystemer.
