Cutter and dryer for biochar facility

Back to news

We have just finished this unique project in Sweden, at Nordvãstra Skånes Renhållnings AB`s biochar facility. Euromilling has designed, produced and delivered a complete solution including the control system for receiving, grinding, drying and storage of biomass, which will be integrated into NSR`s production system for biochar.
The project is designed with a unique grinding-process, where up to 95 degrees water is used for air-heating of both the grinding- and the drying-process. This setup reuses energy for the grinding and drying process, as well for NSR`s system for biochar.
Compared to a traditional designed facility, this setup is very energy-saving and the whole facility gives a massive reduction of the CO2 emission.

To produce biochar from garden waste, the first step is to gather the organic material and chop it into small pieces to increase the surface area. Next, the material is loaded into a pyrolysis chamber or kiln, where it is heated to temperatures between 400-700°C in the absence of oxygen.

Biochar has many benefits for soil health and plant growth, including improving soil fertility, water retention, and nutrient availability. It also has potential as a tool for carbon sequestration, as it can store carbon in the soil for hundreds or even thousands of years. By producing biochar from garden waste, we can not only reduce the amount of organic material that ends up in landfills but also create a valuable resource for improving soil health and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
